New Features
This
revision adds numerous features to the G1701DA MSD Productivity ChemStation.
1.1
Hardware
Support
for the new 5975B VL MSD (diffusion pump).
Support
for the CTC PAL autosampler (available for Enhanced, DrugQuant, and
EnviroQuant modes of operation only).
1.2
SemiQuant
(Fully
supported in Enhanced and Aromatics modes only)
A
SemiQuant quantitation type has been added to the quantitation parameters
allowing estimation of uncalibrated compound concentration based on a
calibrated compound or internal standard.
A
new menu item is available via the Calibrate menu and allows conversion
of
target compounds into SemiQuant compounds.
This facilitates conversion
from a normal or RTL method into a SemiQuant method.
Another
new menu item is available via the Calibrate menu that allows
response factor updates of SemiQuant compounds.
SemiQuant
reports are available to handle the SemiQuant compounds separately
from target compounds to reduce ambiguity within reports.
1.3
Instrument Control Enhancements
High
performance SIM/Scan functionality is now available for the 5975B
Series MSDs. The MSDs can
now utilize 1 millisecond SIM dwell times for SIM
and
SIM/Scan modes of operation.
Integrated
control for the CTC PAL autosampler (with G3384AA add-on CTC
Control
software).
1.4
Data Analysis Enhancements
Easy
Extracted Ion Chromatograms (Easy EICS) allows the user to add an EIC
of
single ion value or mass range to the chromatogram window by using the
mouse, and the ability to simultaneously display up to 3 separate
spectrum
windows. Other features include the ability to save multiple EIC
specification lists for later recall, and the ability to run a
multiple
spectra PBM or NIST search. The Easy EIC functions also run in Overlay
Chromatogram
view permitting display of multiple EICs and up to 3 spectra
for
every data file selected.
The
AutoSIM setup feature in Data Analysis has been updated to allow
automatic generation of a SIM, Scan, or SIM/Scan acquisition method from
an
existing method having a quantitation database.
The
Update Calibration dialog has been revised to allow update of mass
assignments.
The
Snapshot feature can now display data being acquired during a SIM, Scan,
or
SIM/Scan run.
A
Reprocessing menu is available that allows a previously run sequence to be
reprocessed inside of Data Analysis. A sequence may be reprocessed with an
edited Sample Log Table, such as one containing different sample
amounts.
1.5
Enhanced Data Analysis Tools
(Available
in Enhanced mode for MS data only)
The
Analyze Multiple Data Files view can be used to compare the integrity of
samples over time or from different equipment. The view is primarily for
qualitative investigation of groups of data files. All of the normal
functions needed to process data files are available plus additional
functions such as splining and smoothing chromatograms, simultaneous
zooming
in/out of all selected chromatograms, and creating correlation
chromatograms.
The
ability to export numerous reports in HTML, XLS, and XML formats enables
a
new level of reporting flexibility. Exporting to an XLS file requires
Microsoft
Excel.
The
Data File Viewer/Manager allows viewing, keyword searching, and moving
of
multiple data files via a unique interface.
The
Set Lab Name dialog available via the File menu allows entering of a
laboratory name that will appear on reports.

View Methods menu item allows viewing of method parameters without having
to
enter the Instrument Control window.
A
Redraw TIC menu item allows redrawing of the TIC without removing a
selected spectrum window.
An
Annotate Chromatogram with PBM Results menu item labels chromatogram
peaks with the first hit result of a PBM search allowing a graphical
presentation of results.
Linking
of chromatograms is available via the Chromatogram menu when
extended menus are enabled (from the Options menu) and allows
concatenation
of
the selected data files' total ion chromatograms.
Splining
of chromatograms is available via the Chromatogram menu when
extended menus are enabled and enters up to 10 extra data points in
between
real data points depending on the user entered spline factor.
Correlation
Chromatograms can be created that allow comparison of the TIC
with a selected mass spectrum (or library spectra) and display a
"correlation chromatogram" where height is proportional
to the goodness of
the
correlation.
The
Smooth Chromatogram menu item enables Savitsky-Golay smoothing of a
chromatogram.
A
Performance Report can be generated for the current data file which
includes retention time, area, baseline-corrected peak height, peak
width at
baseline, resolution, tailing, Peak-to-Peak S/N, RMS S/N and plates.
A
Display Peak Purity menu item is available to help detect overlapping
(multiple-component)
peaks in a chromatogram and labels each peak with the
number of compounds found in the peak.
Multiple
enhancements were made to the Spectrum menu allowing viewing and
printing of library data.

G1071DA
Revision D.01.02 SP1
This
revision supports the add-on hooks for the MSD HeadSpace Software
package, G2923AA. No other fixes
were added to this software package.
========================================================================
G1071DA
Revision D.01.02
This
revision supports the Fast Electronics Set added to the 5973 inert
MSD
starting with Serial Number US422xxxxx and available as upgrade
kits for previous 5973A, 5973N, and 5973 inert MS instruments.
Instruments
with Fast Electronics have a Fast Scan mode that is
selected by a "Fast Scanning" checkbox in the SIM/Scan panel
of
Instrument Control. The scan
speeds or Sampling Rates specified
in
the Scan Parameters Panel (0-7) are identical for instruments
with Standard and Fast Electronics.
Instruments
with Fast Electronics have reduced SIM settling
times. The SIM settling time
between SIM ions is the time
required for the electronics and signal to stablize at a new
mass ion setting. The Fast
Electronics require less settling
time and therefore will acquire more points across a
chromatographic peak.
Instruments
with Fast Electronics utilize a more sophisticated
mass domain digital filter.
The new digital filter preserves
the
mass peakshape and signal intensity better than the digital
filter associated with the Standard Electronics. The improvements
in
signal intensity are most noticable at the faster (0,1,2)
scan speeds.
The
Fast Electronics set also includes an improved CI flow
controller module. The
new module provides software ON/OFF
control of the CI Reagent gas.
Recently, Agilent published
a
procedure to acquire EI spectra with a CI ion source. The
ON/OFF
control feature permits CI and EI methods to be used
in
a sequence without any interruptions or prompts to set
the
CI Reagent gas flow.
The
ON/OFF control does not enable the reagent flow to be
controlled, nor does it enable the flow to be changed during
a
sequence. After the MSD is power cycled,
the reagent gas
MUST
be selected by the operator BEFORE the ON/OFF control
will function.
Recipients
of upgrade kits or method developers seeking to
benefit from the improved capabilities of the Fast Electronics
should carefully validate their methods. Users of SIM
methods should ensure that the faster SIM cycle times are
compatible with their integration events.
All
operational modes except Aromatics will see a new menu
item in the Sequence menu that permit the "Classic" sample
log
table editor to be selected.

New Features
New
toolbar added to the Top Level and an expanded set of tools
added to Data Analysis.
Placing the cursor of the mouse over
a
tool will provide a tool tip.
The
sequence user interface or sample log table has been transformed
into a spreadsheet user interface.
Long
files names are supported. Data file and
method paths can be
up
to 100 characters long. The names of
individual data files and
methods can be up to 50 characters long. If these limits are exceeded
by
renaming or moving of these directories using standard tools of
the
operating system, the total path and file name length could exceed
the
255 character limitation imposed by the file system when methods
are
stored with the data file.
User
Interfaces for selecting or saving files and directories have
been enhanced with browse buttons.
During
sequencing the ABORT button in the status panel has been
changed to Pause. When this is
selected, the sequence will pause
immediately. When the
sequence is started, it will restart the
sequence where it was paused.
Support
for 5973A and 6890A instruments using GPIB has been restored.
Is
it now possible to disable Method Resolution for most changes in
the
6890 configuration.
Tune\Tune
MSD - A new menu item that will tune the currently loaded
tune file according to the criteria specified by the tune
wizard.
This
is the menu item that should be used most of the time if you have
established a tune file name that is not one of the default or
standard
tune file names, such as ATUNE.U, BFB.U etc. The Manual Tune and Vacuum
Control
views of Instrument Control have be merged into a single view, Tune
and
Vacuum Control.
A
Tune Wizard has been provided to simplify the modification of
critera (tune limits, target ratios) used by the tuning algorithms
File\Load
Data File
A
new load data file panel shows 'thumbnail' previews of chromatograms
prior to actual datafile load.
File\List
Header
Will show a new file, ACQMETH.TXT, for data files created by
this revision.
ACQMETH.TXT
contains the instrument control parameters used to create the
data file. Each time a method
is saved, ACQMETH.TXT, is saved with the Method.
ACQMETH.TXT
is in the same format as Print Method.
When a data file is
acquired, ACQMETH.txt is copied from the method directory into the data
file
directory. Most of the time,
ACQMETH.TXT will accurately reflect the
parameters used to acquire the data file. When data is acquired from
instrument control without running the method, changes in the
method
that have not be saved, will not be reflected in ACQMETH.TXT. Similarly,
changes in chromatographic parameters made on the keyboard or in the
driver's user
interface, but not saved in the method, will not be reflected.
File\Select
Printer
New Menu item that Permits one to change the Windows default
printer or specify a particular printer to be used during Run Method. For convenience, there is an option to print
a test page of GC/MS data.
